Starck Glasses

Gill Opticians is proud to be the number one supplier of Starck glasses in Dublin. As one of only two suppliers we carry the largest collection of Philippe Starck Frames in Ireland.

When Philippe Starck and Alain Mikli came together to design eyewear, the optical world shook on its axis. The result of this combination of characters and creativity is Starck Eyes.

Simplistic creative and innovative design brings a wow factor to every aspect of this glasses range. Hinges modelled on the shoulder joint means they can rotate 180° around their origin. Starck uses synthetic tendons to fix the temple to the front of the frame. The major advantages of this ergonomic design are that the frame fits any shaped head snuggly, and the patented screw less hinge flexes so that these frames never widen from the action of taking off the glasses. The materials used are Biozero (liquid injected polymer), Carbon Fibre, acetate and rubber. Minimalist industrial design using the highest quality materials, these frames are for people who love design while requiring ultimate comfort.

Philippe Starck was born in 1949 in Paris, France. Starck’s father an aeronautical Engineer encouraged him to attend design school where he excelled in his studies. Starck established his own industrial design company and from there he leaped into the lime light as one of the most revered designers in the world. Starck designs everyday products such as furniture and lemon squeezers, to revolutionary mega-yachts, micro wind turbines, electric cars, and hotels that aspire to be wondrous, stimulating and intensely vibrant places.

Starck never ceases to push the boundaries and criteria of contemporary design. His technological miracles are vectors of democratic ecology, focused on action and a respect for the future of both humans and nature. Philippe Starck has always devised objects that demand the most from the least. The solutions provided by his dreams are so vital, so essential that he was the first Frenchman to be invited to the legendary TED (Technology, Entertainment & Design) conferences, talks that bring together such illustrious speakers as Bill Clinton and Richard Branson.
